CamelBak® and RCS Sport at Giro d’Italia, Partner to Create Green Zones to Encourage Sustainable Race Hydration.

CamelBak®, the global leader in hydration products, announces its partnership with RCS Sport for the introduction of Green Zones at the Tour of Italy 2013.
Race organizers will establish CamelBak Green Zones along the race route (two per stage, with the exclusion of the TTs, and generally set up after feeding areas and 20 km from the finish line – list is annexed). The Pro riders will be asked to throw their empty bottles and debris only in these designated zones. All bottles will be collected and "recycled" as a donation to the public and/or to local sports groups.
Considering that each of the 23 teams at the Giro will have a budget of about 5 water bottles per athlete, over the 21 stages of the race, the CamelBak Green Zone program will help “recycle” approximately 23,000 race bottles.
Mountain Stage Hydration
CamelBak will also provide hydration to riders during four of the critical mountain stages. Because stages 14, 15, 19 and 20 will be held on very narrow routes that do not allow the flagship cars to easily reach their athletes, a CamelBak-branded motorbike will deliver properly-sealed water bottles to any athlete in the race whenever necessary. This is a neutral service of the race.
Limited Edition CamelBak® Podium® Giro Bottle
To honor the event, CamelBak has designed a pink version of its premium Podium water bottle. A thermal version will also be given to all flagship cars. The Pink Podium can be purchased as Memorabilia in the Giro Village shops. The CamelBak Podium bottle is the official bottle of UCI World Pro Tour Team Garmin Sharp for the 2013 season. The bottle incorporates Jet Valve™ (a revolutionary self-sealing valve) into a taste-free bottle with a high flow rate.
Massimo Fregonese, Director of International Sales & Marketing at CamelBak International commented: "CamelBak has always supported 'sustainable' hydration for athletes. By that, we mean hydration that is healthy and eco-friendly at the same time. The partnership with RCS Sport is a great example of sustainable hydration in sport."
And pay attention to CamelBak at the Giro 2013!
"Non buttiamo le borracce in… Giro”* will be the CamelBak "leitmotif"; not only for the pros, but for everyone, including the public. With it, the company hopes to raise awareness among cyclists and fans about the concept of sustainable hydration and the idea of "recycling" water bottles at major cycling events.
